DIY: Flower Crown

Hello! I know i've been MIA for awhile now, but I'm back! I've been working on a few things and maybe, just maybe even planning a wedding! I've been wanting to make a flower crown for the longest time now. Since getting engaged, i've always pictured myself as a boho bride. What could be more perfect than a flower crown to complete my look?!

There are lots and lots of tutorials online to help you create your own crown for your special day. I followed one of them and Ta da! I actually made one! I was considering purchasing a silk flower crown on Etsy, but i'm on a pretty tight budget these days, so why not try a lil' DIY? I chose to make a crown out of Baby Breaths. Baby Breaths, aka Gypsophila, are light and airy and very affordable! I just bought one bunch at my local grocery store for only $4. What a steal!

A quick tip: If you're going to store your crown in your fridge, make sure there aren't any fruits or veggies around! Produce can release ethylene gas, which can be harmful to your flowers. Remove them prior to placing your arrangement in the fridge and you'll be good to go!

Supplies:

  • Flowers - Any kind, really. Just make sure you have enough to go around.
  • Floral Tape
  • Floral Wire
  • Scissors or Pliers (to cut the wire)

Optional: Corded twine. It's super sturdy and it looks fantastic. I didn't use it this time, but I will definitely use it for my next project!

Amount spent at Michael's for supplies: $21!

Not bad, not bad at all. :) Check out the photos below.

DIY Flower Crown
 1. Use the wire to measure around your head. I wrapped the wire around three times for stability. 2. You can either wrap the entire crown with floral tape first, or do it as you go along! Do whatever is easiest.

Oh! I got my first flowers wrapped! Exciting! 4. Make sure your bundles are all facing the same direction! In this case, all my flower buds are facing left.

My project is complete! I think it looks pretty good for my first time, don't you think?
